Key Largo - Day Ten - January 25, 2017

Calm Waters
We awoke this morning to a perfect day in paradise. The wind had dropped, the temperature was perfect and Florida Bay was dead calm. We had our coffee on the balcony and I got in a bit of drone time before we walked next door to Mrs. Macs Kitchen for breakfast. This is one of those charming places that you find as a

treasure in the keys. The service and the food here was fantastic - we highly recommend this place for anyone traveling the keys. Payment should not be a problem because the menu says "We accept all major credit cards, gold watches and precious jewels." The walls here are covered in license plates from all across the country, but we did not see any Rhode Island plates. I am sure they must have one somewhere, but I didn't inquire fearing that ours would be snatched. After breakfast we headed back up the island to the Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park for a nice long hike - well not that long, we only got in a little under two miles as the path was flooded and we couldn't complete the loop. But we

did see lots of cool stuff including exotic butterflies, strange birds

and lots of little lizards running around just about everywhere. We chatted with a lady who was hiking and watching the birds, and passed many other people hiking the trails. Here are a few photos we took as we explored the Key Largo Hammock Botanical Park.

Carol took some of these and I took some. It was really a joy to explore such an exotic

environment that is so different from out northern hikes in New England. The rest of the day was spent shopping and exploring the island. And we had some good 'sit on the beach time' as well, I got in a sketch and brought out the drone to try to capture the great sunset. Here is a short video recap of the day.
